Featured Cinematic: Purpose

Purpose tells the story of a robot who spontaneously reboots 1000 years after some deep-space calamity has shut down his entire robotic civilization. This robot seeks out Asteria, the gigantic leader of the robots, who can surely set things to rights.

The theme of Purpose is that we should find strength in ourselves rather than in the actions of others. Purpose was inspired by the story of R.O.Bit, my final game project at Vancouver Film School.

Extra special thanks to Jay Zhou and Rishi Patkar, friends and students, who helped with special effects and editing.

Shot Lists for R.O.Bit

Opening Cinematic

The opening cinematic tells the story of R.O.Bit's past before crossfading directly to gameplay.

In-Game Cinematics

Once they were all collected, the six collectible data discs would play back the origin story of R.O.Bit's civilization.

End Cinematic

After re-awakening the massive GodBot, this climactic cinematic would set the stage for future R.O.Bit adventures.

Trailer

The trailer is meant to grab the audience, hint at the story, and leave them wanting to play the game.

I planned several cinematics to meet R.O.Bit's initial design, though only the opening cinematic and the trailer were completed. You can see both the opening cinematic and the trailer (as one video) on the R.O.Bit project page.
